A north side option close to home

For families in North Spokane, Mead, Colbert, Nine Mile Falls, and Deer Park, Holy Family is often the shortest drive in labor. That matters more than people expect. A shorter trip means you can labor at home longer and arrive more settled.

Holy Family's Family Maternity Center is set up so you stay in one room from labor through recovery. You are not moved down the hall after birth, which many families find calmer.

How a doula helps at Holy Family

  • Timing your drive. I help you watch your labor pattern at home and decide when to leave, so you arrive ready rather than early.
  • Making one room work for the whole stay. Since you labor and recover in the same space, we set it up for labor first: lights low, music on, a birth ball, and room to move. Then we reset it for rest and bonding after your baby arrives.
  • Comfort through every stage. Massage, counter pressure, breathing, and position changes, with or without pain medication.
  • A rested partner. With a couch in the room, partners can actually sleep. I help make sure they do, so you both have energy for the first nights.
  • Feeding support. I help with the first feed and positioning, and connect you with the hospital's lactation help if you need more.

Getting ready for your stay

  • Pack for two. Your partner will likely stay overnight, so bring their pillow, toiletries, and a change of clothes.
  • Ask about visitors. The rooms have space for visitors, but policies change. Ask what is allowed during labor versus after birth, and whether your doula counts as a support person.
  • Plan for the unexpected. Ask your provider what happens if you or your baby need a higher level of care, including whether a transfer to Sacred Heart is ever needed.
  • Leave a little early in winter. Snow on the north side routes can slow you down, so build in extra time from December through March.
