Small unit, close to home

With just nine rooms, Valley's Family Birth Center is one of the smallest birth units in the area. For families in Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Greenacres, Otis Orchards, and even Post Falls, it can also be the closest.

Everything happens in one room, from your first contractions to the day you go home. Many families love that, because there is no move after birth and no new space to get used to while you are exhausted.

How a doula helps at Valley

  • Steady support on a busy night. A small unit has a small team. On a night when several families are in labor, your nurse may be stretched. Your doula is there just for you, the whole time.
  • Turning your room into a calm space. Since you stay in one room for days, we set it up for labor, then reset it for rest and bonding.
  • Physical comfort. Counter pressure, massage, position changes, and breathing, with or without an epidural.
  • Help with your questions. I help you understand your options and talk with your care team, without ever making decisions for you.
  • The first days. With your whole stay in one room, I can help you settle into feeding and rest before you head home.

Before your due date

  • Ask about NICU care. Ask your provider what happens if your baby needs a higher level of care than Valley offers, and where your baby would go.
  • Ask about support people. Find out how many people can be with you in labor and whether your doula counts.
  • Book your postpartum help early. If you live in the Valley or Liberty Lake, overnight postpartum support can make those first weeks at home much easier. See postpartum options.
